Image panning in the editor

The left mouse button is no longer used for image panning.

Image may be panned with the middle mouse button, or by combining the left mouse button with the meta modifier (Alt key on Windows, Alt or Win key on GNU/Linux, Command key on Mac).

The “select” tool

There is now a new tool in the editor called “Select”, which is automatically activated when no other tool (like “Move” or “Edit”) is active. While the “Select” tool is active, no modifications are made to the selected object, and the left mouse button may be used to select objects in the editor.

While other tools are active, objects may be selected using the shift key + left mouse button combination, or through the objects list.

When object selection changes, the current tool will remain active as long as it is applicable to the newly selected object.

Selected object indication

Selected object is now indicated in the editor window with a thin line drawn in grid/crosshair color over the object’s border.

Legacy support for the transitional period

The changes in this version are made in an attempt to bring the editor behavior more in line with popular graphical editors, CAD systems, 3D modeling tools, and other software, and also to make different editor tools more consistent among themselves.

For the transitional period the old selection and image panning behavior may be re-activated through the editor preferences menu, but the support for the old behavior will eventually be removed in one of the future releases.
