Keylabs Release 2.7
New file upload wizard
Adding files has become more sequential and easier to understand. The new wizard first asks you to choose the file type - images or video - and the source: cloud storage, CSV, manual entry, or upload from your computer. After that, only the fields needed for the selected scenario are displayed.
For files from cloud storage, the size and number of frames are determined automatically. Rows with errors are highlighted and can be shown separately, and default values, such as the frame step or segment length, can be applied to all rows with a single click.
The last step shows the result of the upload: which files were created, which already existed in the project, and which could not be added. For failed operations, the Retry the failed one button is available.
Project announcements
Projects now have an Announcements tab for publishing updates and important clarifications for the team. Announcements support headings, text formatting, bulleted and numbered lists, up to 10 images, and automatic links.
Announcements complement the project manual and can be saved as drafts before publishing.
Team members see unread announcements when opening a file, in the Please read before you continue window, and confirm them with the I have read it or Later button. Notifications about new announcements and their updates can also be opened by clicking the notifications icon in the header of the user’s profile. Published announcements can also be opened later via the Project announcements button in the editor header.
When editing a published announcement, two save options are available: Save quietly, if the changes do not require re-reading, or Save and ask to re-read, if the team needs to review the updated version again. In the second case, users receive a notification.
For the previous version of an announcement, the
What changed tab is available: added text is highlighted in green, and deleted text is struck through. Via the Read by N of M link on the Announcements page, you can see who has read the current version, who has only read the previous one, and who has not yet read the announcement.
Announcements are not shown to clients; they are received only by team members with the Worker role.
AI assistant for managers
The new Assistant is available from the header of any page and can be
expanded to full screen. Managers can ask questions in plain language about projects, files, stages, users, comments, working time, and work speed, and receive answers with links to the relevant pages.
The Assistant can also perform actions on the platform: create projects and stages, add classes and attributes, run exports, generate reports in CSV or Google Sheets, assign files, move them between stages, and change attributes in bulk.
Before assigning files, moving them between stages, making bulk changes, or deleting, the assistant shows a Confirm this action card listing the planned changes. The action is performed only after you click Apply.
You can attach PDFs, Word documents (.docx), images, and text files to the chat, for example, a labeling instruction from the client, and ask questions about their content.
Chats are available only to their owner. The Assistant works within the user’s permissions and is available to administrators and project managers. The feature is enabled separately for each installation on request.
Video annotation progress
A progress bar, similar to the one used during verification, has been added for video annotation stages. Viewed frames are marked with color, while unviewed ones remain gray. Clicking the bar lets you jump directly to the desired frame.
In the stage settings, the Require every frame parameter is available. It can warn the annotator or prevent them from completing the file if not all frames have been viewed.
The progress bar is enabled by default and can be hidden using the Show progress bar to annotator parameter.
Configurable step for brush, brightness, and contrast
A custom step for changing parameters can now be configured
for editor hotkeys.
In the brush settings, the Step, px parameter determines how much the [ and ] keys change its size. The available range is from 1 to 1000 px.
In the brush settings, the Step, px parameter determines how much the [ and ] keys change its size. The available range is from 1 to 1000 px.
For brightness and contrast, a similar Step, % parameter is available in the Color adjustment.
The settings are saved in the user account and apply in any browser.
Toolbar personalization
The editor toolbar can now be customized to match your own workflow. In customization mode , you can change the order of tools and action buttons - delete, link, change type, keyframes, and others - and hide unneeded elements.
Hidden tools remain available in the Hidden tools (N) section below the panel, and their hotkeys continue to work.
The Reset button restores the default layout, and Done or Esc finishes customization. The personal layout is saved in the user account and applied in all projects.
Disabling mugshots without deleting
An Active checkbox has been added for each
mugshot on the Classes tab. If it is turned off, the mugshot is no longer shown in the list of available values in the editor and cannot be assigned to new objects.
Existing objects with such a mugshot are not changed: the value remains available in the editor, exports, and filters. Turning the checkbox back on returns the mugshot to the selection list.
Color-coded start buttons
On the My Assignments page and in the project’s Status tab, the start buttons now have distinct colors for different modes: blue for annotation, green for verification, and orange for briefing.
The current shift mode is highlighted in the corresponding color and marked with a check mark. The End shift button is now red.
Comment counters
Columns with comment counts can be added to the project list on the Projects page: total, open, resolved, and verified, separately for external and internal comments.
You can sort and filter projects by these values, for example, to find projects with unresolved client comments.
Clients only have access to external comment counters.

Downloading file names
On the Files tab, you can now download the names of all files that match the current filters.
The names are saved in a text file, one per line.
Hiding stages from the customer
A Stages hidden from the customer parameter has appeared in the Additional section the Special permissions block of the project configuration.
Files at the selected stages are no longer displayed in the client’s file list, and the stages themselves are hidden from the stage filter. The client also cannot open such files or receive them in their export.
The feature is available to users with admin rights (root and Admin).
Improvements
Files
- 2K / 4K badges - for streaming videos with 2K or 4K resolution, a corresponding badge is now displayed next to the file name on the Files tab. Hovering the cursor shows the exact video size.
- Faster adding from cloud storage - the cloud storage browser is now integrated into the file upload wizard. You can navigate between folders via the path bar, select all files in a folder or in all of its subfolders, and see the number of selected files. Files that have already been added to the table are marked separately. Data is loaded in batches, and the folder tree is retrieved in a single request, which speeds up work with large folders. During adding, an added X of Y progress is displayed, and the operation can be canceled.
- Smoother switching of files with previews - hover previews and thumbnails on the Files tab are now prepared in the background and loaded only for rows visible on screen. This reduces the load when opening the next file in the editor. The preview appears after a short pause and stops loading when the user opens the file.
Editor
- Disabling hover highlighting - highlighting of object outlines on cursor hover can now be turned off in the 2D editor Settings. This can be convenient when working with dense images where the additional outline gets in the way. Selecting objects by clicking continues to work as before.
- Automatic frame map recovery - if a streaming video has no frame map or it is damaged, the editor now automatically recovers it and saves the result. Recovery is performed by only one user. Other users receive a short notification and can open the file after the process is complete. The feature also works with concatenated videos.
- Paste object in the same place - in the Settings, in the Copy / paste group, an option has appeared that allows pasting a copied object at the same coordinates it was copied from, rather than under the cursor. This simplifies moving objects to the next frame or another file without shifting their position.
- Disabling vertex addition by clicking on an edge - in Edit mode, clicking on an edge of a polygon or multiline adds a new vertex. This behavior can now be turned off in the Settings using the Add polygon / multiline point by clicking an edge (Edit tool) parameter in the Drawing group. If the parameter is turned off, clicking on an edge moves the whole object. Dragging vertices and the Add vertex tool continue to work as before. The option is enabled by default and is applied immediately, without reopening the file.
Sanity
- More reliable checks in the Sanity builder - the Sanity AI check builder now correctly handles queries like “show files where…” and conditions that combine a file attribute with a check for the presence of objects in the file. This fixes situations where such queries created checks that later failed to run.
Reports
- Average time per completed new file - a column Avg. time per completed new file has been added to the Velocity. It is located right after Completed new files (total). The metric is available both in the overall report for all projects and in the report for an individual project. It is also visible to operators, so they can check their actual speed on their own.
Projects
- Project name in the browser tab - on project pages and in the editor, the browser tab title now starts with the project name. This makes navigation easier when many tabs are open at once. The title is updated when switching to another project and after a project is renamed.
- Log in as user - administrators can now view the platform from a specific user’s perspective not only from the Users page, but also from the project’s Users tab. The user’s context menu includes the Log in as this user option. After logging in, the platform is displayed with the same permissions and access as the selected user. The administrator’s current session is ended; to return to their own account, they need to log in again.
Deployment
- More compact backups - backups no longer include files that have been deleted from the server, as well as exports that can be recreated if needed. Old backups are deleted even on nights when creating a new file backup ended with an error.
Fixes
- Clear message about an unavailable media file: if a video, image, or frame is no longer available in storage, the editor no longer stays in an endless loading state and no longer repeats requests in the background. It now reports whether the file was deleted, access to it is denied, or the storage is not responding, and offers a Try again button.
- Faster opening of some MP4 files: fixed an issue with streaming MP4 files recorded with thousands of small fragments and an index at the end of the file. Previously, such videos could show a black screen for one to three minutes before the first frame appeared. Now the editor finds the required data in two requests instead of thousands, so such files open much faster.
- Complete deletion of project data: when a project is deleted, its uploaded files, exports, cloning and Sanity check results, comments, and their attachments are now also deleted. Running exports, cloning, and Sanity checks are stopped first. A project that is currently used as a cloning source (that is, it is currently being cloned) cannot be deleted. At the same time, working time and work speed records are retained, so reports for previous periods do not change.
- Export access according to project access: export access permissions now match project access. A project manager can view, download, cancel, and delete exports only for the projects they manage. A project created by a manager via the API or SDK now automatically assigns that manager as its manager. Clients can cancel only their own exports.
- Azure access error fixes: fixed random media file access errors in Azure with the message “Signature not valid in the specified time frame”, which occurred due to a small time difference between servers.
